Turning On Your Air Conditioner For The First Time And No Luck? What You Can Do
If you are just turning on your air conditioner for the first time of the season and you aren't getting any cool air coming through your vents, you need to get on top of the situation before you end up sweating in your house. If you're having an issue with your air conditioner at the very beginning of the season, you need to get on top of this issue before you're left in the heat waiting on a repairman to come to your home during the busiest time of the year. Read on for a few things that you may be able to do to get your air conditioner working properly.
Test The Thermostat
Test the thermostat to be sure it's working as it should. If your thermostat isn't working with your air conditioner, it could cause your air conditioner to not turn on at all. If your thermostat isn't sending the right signals to your air conditioner, your air conditioner isn't going to be able to do what it's supposed to be doing. Check that your thermostat is working by testing the wiring and checking that it turns on the other systems in your home. If you aren't hearing the thermostat click or do anything, there's a good chance that the problem is the thermostat, not the air conditioner. Replace the thermostat with a newer model and be sure to connect the wiring properly to ensure it is sending the right signals to the air conditioning unit.
Check The Unit
Check the unit to see if it's making any type of noises at all. If the unit itself isn't even making a sound, and the fan isn't turning, you may not have any power going to the unit. Check that there is power going to the unit by making sure it's turned on and also that the fuse isn't blown. If this isn't an issue, and you still don't have any type of power, you need to get a hold of an HVAC company to come out and troubleshoot the problem for you. Your unit may not have power for a number of reasons. It's best to hire an HVAC company to get to the bottom of the problem to ensure the air conditioner is repaired properly and working as it should.
If your air conditioner isn't turning on with that first click of the thermostat at the beginning of the season, don't mess around too much and have to wait for a repair person, as this is going to be their busiest time of the year. Call them right away to have your air conditioner inspected and repaired.
